Workshop on Time and Money with Maurice Summen
Date: April 12th, 2024
Facilitators: Maurice Summen and Thomas Venker
Topic: Time and Money
The EM GUIDE project hosts 14 internal workshops. These workshops are meant to help the project staff, and occasionally other contributors of the network, to acquire, improve, and exchange skills and knowledge relevant to the participating magazines and/or the network itself.
The workshop, titled Time and Money, resembled an interview session, with a focus on the economic challenges confronting independent artists, artist managers, and organizers. Throughout the session, insights into Maurice Summen's work and personal life were shared, exploring various topics. These included the operations of sync agencies, publishers, and labels, as well as the challenges of freelancing and working in the gig economy.
About the facilitators:
Maurice Summen is a German musician, music publisher, author, and journalist. He is the founder of Die Türen, a hard-to-categorize Germany-based band, and Staatsakt, a Berlin-based music label dealing with independent, experimental music.
